Wave Mode
In Wave mode, WaveBoy functions like the Wave channel in LSDJ (the GameBoy tracker). It supports 32 patches which are read from a simple textfile off the SD card. On startup, these are loaded into WaveBoy's memory.
Each patch contains 16 waves called "frames". Each wave is made from 32 4-bit
samples.
Flipping between frames is done by way of the CV input. While less ideal for manually
picking a frame, it allows for modulating frames using envelopes, LFOs, S&H, MIDI CCs
(coming from a MIDI/CV device), etc.
Show Wave
Each wave frame can be modified directly on WaveBoy by going to Show Wave (from the main menu) and using the the encoders. Turning the left encoder sets the value of the currently selected step. Turning the right encoder changes the step. You can see which step you are on by looking at the top dot on the display right under the header. The bottom dot is for the step sequencer.
The status bar along the top shows the current frame (Fr), the frame number the step sequencer is on (St) and the step sequencer mode (F for Forward; B for Backward; P for Ping-Pong; and R for Random). Press the right encoder to set the mode.
Load Patch
Load patch is where you can load the current set of waves from the patch memory. Select the patch with the left encoder and press it to load the patch. Press the right encoder to jump back to the main menu.
Save Patch
If you like the current set of frames, you can name and save them by going to Save patch. Use the left encoder to set the currently-selected character (which appears as a zoomed in version on the bottom right of the screen). Use the right encoder to switch to other character positions in the name.
To prevent accidental saving, you must press and hold the left encoder to save the patch. (Note in reality this saves all patches). Press the right encoder to exit without saving.
